…The Senate voted on the bill in the middle of the night, and House Democrats cut off questions from Republicans minutes before a new General Assembly was sworn in Wednesday. The bill, which Gov. J.B. Pritzker has indicated he supports despite the lack of transparency, will eliminate across Illinois the system of cash bail that attempts to ensure defendants return to court. The bill allows for the release of anyone charged with an offense, including those charged with felonies, while they await the conclusion of their cases — no detention at all…In only a few sections does the bill address crime victims and their rights to be notified when an accused defendant is released under the no bail system.
