Flag that flew over SS Exodus donated to Washington Holocaust Museum

The Israeli flag that flew aboard the SS Exodus has been donated to the Holocaust Museum in Washington, DC, the Israeli daily Haaretz reported Wednesday. According to Haaretz, a winning bid of $144,000 secured the flag for Tom and Bill Silverstein, two Jewish brothers from Chicago at a Jerusalem auction last month, after which they donated it to the American museum. The SS Exodus was the most famous of hundreds of ships that sought to transport European Jews to the land that later became the nation of Israel immediately after World War II. As the flag arrived at the Museum in Washington, Museum Director Sara J. Bloomfield described it as a “a rare treasure,” said the New York Times. READ MORE
