Retired NBA Star Amar’e Stoudemire Shares His Journey to Judaism in HBO Series

Former NBA player Amar’e Stoudemire opened up about his spiritual journey to becoming an Orthodox Jew in a new episode of HBO’s “Real Sports with Bryant Gumbel” that aired Tuesday night. “Its been a quest of searching for emet, searching for the truth. I’m for sure a different person than I was before,” said Stoudemire, who played in the NBA for 14 years. “It’s very intense, you’re leaving your old way of thinking, you’re leaving your old way of action to a new concept.”…Stoudemire was drafted into the NBA by the Phoenix Suns shortly afterwards, and shared in Tuesday night’s episode that even during his early years in the NBA, he would seek library books that could teach him more about his Israelite ancestry.
