Sayeret Matkal veteran aboard Flight 11: ‘We missed out on someone great’

September 10, 2026

At 8:46 a.m. on Sept. 11, 2001, American Airlines Flight 11 struck the North Tower of the World Trade Center. Before the impact, Daniel Lewin, a 31-year-old Israeli American, former Sayeret Matkal officer and co-founder of internet giant Akamai Technologies, was murdered in business class…The moments in which he is believed to have tried to confront the hijackers have overshadowed the story of a teenage immigrant, a friend, husband and father, a man of physical strength and formidable intellect, and an exceptional entrepreneur…As a child in Denver, Lewin played the violin. In Israel, he took up bodybuilding and won the title of Mr. Israel for his age group. He later went on to Sayeret Matkal, the IDF’s elite special forces unit, then the Technion, MIT and eventually the company he co-founded, Akamai. “Everything he did was just like larger than life,” Avni said. “He had the physical, he had the energy, he had the charisma, he had the intelligence, he had all these things packed into one, and he was driven beyond belief.” READ MORE

If Palestinians have a right to live among Jews, why is Jewish life among Palestinians treated as an obstacle to peace?

THE FUTURE OF JEWISH
The Israeli settlement debate is built on a massive double standard.
John Matthews
September 9, 2026

…And where did this drive to have zero Jewish-Israeli presence in Judea and Samaria come from? And what on earth is the British government (and possibly other nations) thinking of in supporting it? After all, this stance to effectively remove all Jews from an area hasn’t been seen since Nazi Germany. And when we look at the situation the other side in Israel, we have a 21 percent Arab (mostly Muslim) population, totalling 2.1 million people. So why should a sixth of that (350,000 Jews) living among an Arab population of 5.5 million (only 6.35 percent) cause a problem? Much of this stems from longtime Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat’s proclamation in the 1980s: “We plan to eliminate the State of Israel and establish a purely Palestinian state. We will make life unbearable for Jews by psychological warfare and population explosion. We Palestinians will take over everything, including all of Jerusalem.”… Still to this day, there is an average of 348 terrorist attacks a month against Israelis by Palestinians, many of these taking place in the Judea and Samaria. In contrast, the number of attacks the other way from Israeli settlers to Palestinians is a fifth of that, but these latter attacks are invariably at the forefront of the news, with attacks against Israeli Jews hardly getting a mention. TABLET MAG The New Genocide Libel The hysteria raging through international media channels over violence in Judea and Samaria (otherwise known as the West Bank) has reached new heights. The genocide accusation has shifted, now that the war in Gaza has receded from view, and the campaign against settler violence has taken its place. The key here is the logic of justification: the accusations don’t come as neutral claims, but come with threats, consequences, and punishments to be meted out against Israel. On Aug. 29, David D. Kirkpatrick The New Yorker published an article by David D. Kirkpatrick with a strange proposition: since Israeli settlements are thwarting the establishment of a contiguous Palestinian state, and violent Israeli settlers are allegedly seeking to ethnically cleanse Palestinians, the only option is to evict hundreds of thousands of settlers. In other words, Israelis are ethnically cleansing Palestinians; therefore, the Israelis should be ethnically cleansed.

Adidas apologizes after anti-Israel agitators urge boycott over campaign featuring disabled IDF veteran
Shiryn Ghermezian
September 7, 2026

The German sportswear company Adidas apologized over the weekend for featuring in a campaign a former soldier in the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) who lost his left leg while protecting Israel near the Gaza border, after pro-Palestinian activists called for a boycott of the brand. Shalev Biton partnered with Adidas to promote the brand’s in-store “single shoe” service campaign, which allows shoppers with leg limb differences to buy only one running shoe, instead of paying for a pair, at 50 percent off the full-pair price. Biton lost his left leg in May 2021 in Israel while serving in the IDF’s Nahal Brigade during Operation Guardian of the Walls. He was injured when an anti-tank missile fired from Gaza hit his military vehicle located on the Israeli side of the border, and now wears a prosthetic limb. Fellow IDF soldier Staff Sgt. Omer Tabib was killed in the attack. READ MORE

“Successful rapper used the massive stage to rail against Israel, displaying prominent symbols and making statements that left Israeli and Jewish concertgoers stunned”

‘Free Palestine’: Ed Sheeran opener goes off rails
Inbar Cohen
September 6, 2026

British pop star Ed Sheeran’s concert in the New York metropolitan area on Friday turned into a political flashpoint that left a number of concertgoers stunned. The controversy began when American rapper Macklemore’s opening set at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey, veered sharply from music into an overt political demonstration. Macklemore did not confine himself to the music. The rapper took the massive stage wearing a Palestinian keffiyeh and called out “Free Palestine” to tens of thousands of concertgoers. For Israeli and Jewish members of the audience, however, that was only the beginning. READ MORE

NEW YORK POST Ed Sheeran’s silence speaks volumes — as pro-Hamas Macklemore takes the flak Ed Sheeran can’t say he didn’t know. For the last two years, rapper Macklemore has made radical political activism as central to his public persona as his music. He’s released songs that falsely accuse Israel of “genocide” and “apartheid,” and that embrace the violent pro-Hamas campus protest movement. He’s donated concert proceeds to the Hamas-aligned UNRWA, an organization whose employees took part in the Oct. 7 massacre. Yet Sheeran — the folk-pop singer-songwriter whose bashful demeanor has won him a huge following among both teen girls and their moms — chose to hire the woke rapper as the “special guest” on his national tour.

Ben-Gvir unveils voluntary Gaza emigration plan, vows implementation after election
September 5, 2026

Itamar Ben-Gvir, national security minister and chairman of the Otzma Yehudit Party, presented on Thursday his party’s “Disengagement 7/10” plan, aimed at allowing the voluntary emigration of Gaza Strip residents to countries willing to accept them. He discussed the plan’s objectives in a recorded message issued to the press. The program’s main goal is to enable the voluntary departure of approximately 250,000 Gazans in the first year, approximately 1.11 million within three years, and approximately 1.86 million within seven years, according to a later statement issued by the party. US-Israel air fares are expected to drop with the two carriers’ return after a busy August holiday rush

JEWISH CHRONICLE
Delta and United announce resumption of Israel flights ahead of High Holy Days
September 7, 2026

US carriers Delta and United are resuming service to Israel this week, following summer suspensions caused by the Iran War. The much-anticipated move, which comes just ahead of the High Holy Days, follows the resumption of service to Tel Aviv by most major European airlines. Delta resumed service to Tel Aviv on Sunday with a daily flight from New York’s JFK airport. United, meanwhile, will restart service on Tuesday, and will offer two daily flights from its hub at Newark Liberty in New Jersey. A third flight operating four times weekly is scheduled to begin in November. Travel consultants said it would take time for airfares to drop, and that the much-needed competition on the lucrative transatlantic route would most clearly affect pricing after the Autumn holiday season. “It is curious that while Delta has aggressively been marketing their return with attractive fares, United has taken the opposite approach,” Mark Feldman, CEO of Jerusalem’s Ziontours, told JNS on Sunday. “Charlie understood what too many influential Americans have forgotten: Israel is not merely a modern country or a political project. It is the ancestral homeland of the Jewish people, promised to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, to which Jews have prayed to return for thousands of years”

Charlie Kirk stood with the Jewish People. We must stand for his legacy
Rabbi Yaakov Menken
September 10, 2026

One year ago, the voice of Charlie Kirk was silenced by an assassin’s bullet…If Charlie stood for one thing, it was values. He advocated for the dignity of every person and group, recognizing the spark of the Divine in every human life. He championed peaceful and robust discourse. He spoke often of the importance of family and children, which he also demonstrated through personal example. For countless Jews in America and Israel, Charlie was a true friend and ally. At a time when standing with the Jewish people became increasingly difficult and, in some circles, socially and professionally costly, Charlie Kirk stood with us proudly, publicly, and without apology…His support for Israel was not contingent on polling, applause or political convenience, but rooted in moral clarity. Charlie recognized that Israel stands on the front lines of a much larger struggle between civilization and barbarism, freedom and tyranny, life and those who glorify death. READ MORE

“With Iran, the president is trying to chart a middle course between George Bush’s war and Barack Obama’s retreat. Whether that can succeed is an open question”

TABLET MAG
Trump’s Third Way
Michael Doran
September 1, 2026

…His actions reveal a president steering between what he considers to be two wrecks. The first is George W. Bush’s regime-change war in Iraq. Trump called that war possibly the worst decision in presidential history and promised his voters never to repeat it. The second is Barack Obama’s Iran policy. After Iraq, Obama concluded, America’s only remaining course was to retreat, pay Tehran for quiet, and call it peace. Trump’s critics can imagine only these two headings, so each camp accuses him of steering toward the one it hates. But the president is attempting something harder: He is applying enough force to change the calculus of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps without tipping into the war of conquest toward which the dynamic of the conflict is pulling him. The bombing has proved insufficient, so he is tightening an economic siege in its place. Whether that middle course can succeed is the real question of the stalemate. Answering it begins with the military balance, which [Lindsey] Graham’s theory took for granted. READ MORE

October 7: “Netanyahu said this week that officials had deliberately chosen not to wake him earlier despite warning signs during the night”

I24 NEWS
Netanyahu releases Oct. 7 timeline to shift the blame-but exposes a 3½-hour delay
Joe Brown
September 3, 2026

Prime Minister Netanyahu’s office has published a detailed account of his movements and decisions on the morning of Hamas’s Oct. 7, 2023, attack, in an apparent effort to reinforce his argument that Israel’s security establishment failed to warn him while there was still time to prepare communities along the Gaza border. The chronology portrays Netanyahu as acting decisively once informed: questioning the absence of prior intelligence, considering the elimination of Hamas’s leadership, ordering a full mobilization of reservists and demanding that the Gaza boundary be sealed. But the same timeline highlights a politically difficult gap. According to the Prime Minister’s Office, Netanyahu was first told at 6:29 a.m. that an attack was underway. The full situation assessment with Israel’s senior security leadership began at 9:55 am—three hours and 26 minutes later, as Israeli communities were being overrun and hostages taken into Gaza. The release comes amid a renewed battle over responsibility for Israel’s worst security failure. READ MORE

33 Democrats join most GOP lawmakers in backing legislation which blocks federal funding from universities that boycott Israel

US House advances bill to withhold federal funds from universities boycotting Israel
Jacob Magid
September 4, 2026

The US House of Representatives on Thursday advanced legislation blocking federal funding from universities that boycott Israel, with 33 moderate Democrats joining almost every Republican in backing the measure. After passing by a margin of 237 to 169, the Protect Economic and Academic Freedom Act still needs to be passed by the Senate before it can be signed into law…House Democratic leadership opposed the bill over what it said were free speech concerns, in addition to arguing that it doesn’t differentiate between Israel and settlements in the West Bank, which much of the international community deems illegal…Defending the bill, its Democratic cosponsor Representative Josh Gottheimer told lawmakers during a speech before the vote that it “simply says that if your university takes federal taxpayer dollars, it can’t discriminate against academic partnerships or investments with one country.” READ MORE

ALGEMEINER Anti-Israel Insurgents Fall Flat in Massachusetts Democratic Primaries
A trio of hardline anti-Israel candidates lost in Massachusetts on Tuesday night, representing a blow to the broader movement against the Jewish state within the Democratic Party. Progressive candidates Jeromie Whalen, Tram Nguyen, and Craig Swallow were defeated by establishment Democrats in Tuesday night’s contests. In each race, the progressive insurgents attempted to weaponize Israel and alleged connections to the America Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) against their moderate opponents. Rep. Richard Neal, who represents the 1st District of Massachusetts, successfully beat back a challenge by left-wing opposition Jeromie Whalen, who attempted to cast Neal as part of an out-of-touch establishment elite beholden to corporate interests.
